Opening Denver’s Doors Wider: Creating Our Accessible Denver Guide
Bottom Line:

Denver’s Accessible Guide is a commitment to inclusive travel, community empowerment, and sustainable destination development. By prioritizing accessibility, Visit Denver enhances the visitor experience and sets a benchmark for how destination organizations can drive social impact and community alignment through intentional design, collaboration, and action.

At Visit Denver, we’re always working to ensure that every visitor feels welcome, seen and supported, including those who experience the world in different ways. That’s why we’re proud to share the launch of our new Accessible Denver Guide.

Our goal was simple: provide one central place for travelers of all abilities to find the resources they need to plan their Denver experiences. Whether you're looking for accessible attractions and hotels, transportation options or events, the guide connects users to vetted information for those with physical, vision, hearing, neurodiverse and cognitive disabilities.

This guide was built with intention, care and deep collaboration. Our team did extensive research and connected with our partners and communities to understand the different programs available to visitors, from sensory-friendly to outdoor and adaptive sports experiences. We also had the honor of working with Dr. Rosemarie Rossetti, an internationally recognized expert in disability inclusion, universal design and accessibility. Together, we evaluated and organized the most helpful, inclusive and easy-to-use information possible for visitors with mobility, sensory and cognitive needs.

In addition, we collaborated with the City of Denver to learn about services for people with disabilities. Denver was a pioneer on this front, being the first metropolitan region in the country to provide large-scale wheelchair-accessible buses. Today, Denver’s convenient RTD A Line train from Denver International Airport to Denver Union Station is fully accessible.

Denver is known for its friendly people, blue skies and stunning Rocky Mountain backdrop— but it’s also an exciting, accessible city. The streets are flat, making it easy to navigate. We’ve designed this guide to ensure every traveler can explore with ease and independence.

We also understand that for some, the decision to explore a new city comes down to one thing: confidence. Can I get around? Will I be comfortable? Will I be able to fully participate in the experience? Our hope is that this guide removes uncertainty — and replaces it with excitement.

This project continues our broader commitment to building a more inclusive and welcoming Denver for all. We’re proud of this milestone, but this is just the beginning. We welcome ongoing feedback from visitors and the local community alike to help keep this resource up to date and truly useful.

Actionable Takeaways

  1. Find outside experts who represent the topic you want to explore and can see your city from a fresh perspective.
  2. Strive to understand things from different viewpoints by educating yourself on the unique needs of the audience.
  3. Dig deep by doing your own research and working closely with the community and partners to identify and represent what is available in your city.
