Destinations International Opens Applications for “Pathways to Success Program” to Support the Next Generation of Tourism Leaders
Expanded scholarship and career development initiative builds on commitment to workforce development and industry advancement
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 9, 2025) – Destinations International (DI), the world’s leading resource for destination organizations and convention and visitors bureaus, today opened applications for Pathways to Success, its expanded scholarship and professional development program designed to invest in emerging talent across the travel, tourism and hospitality sector. The program is supported by the DI Foundation.
Evolving from the association’s successful Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Scholarship Program, Pathways to Success broadens eligibility to include students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities across the United States and Canada who are pursuing degrees in hospitality or tourism management. The new program strengthens DI’s long-standing commitment to fostering workforce belonging and supporting the industry’s future leaders.
Through Pathways to Success, awarded student scholars receive tuition assistance, one-on-one mentorship, industry exposure including participation at DI events and meaningful connections with destination professionals committed to guiding their growth. The program is designed not only to lessen financial barriers, but also to equip participants with the tools, networks and confidence needed to build impactful careers in tourism.
“The future of our industry depends on the leaders we nurture today,” said Don Welsh, president & CEO of Destinations International. “Pathways to Success reflects our belief that investing in young professionals strengthens our destinations, our communities and our industry as a whole. We are proud to expand this program so more students can access the opportunities and support they need to thrive.”
“Workforce development is essential to building a more dynamic and resilient travel and tourism ecosystem,” said Sophia Hyder Hock, Chief Impact Officer at Destinations International. “Pathways to Success creates intentional pathways for students – including those who may not see themselves represented in leadership today – to gain mentorship, professional experience and a sense of belonging in our industry. We’re committed to helping these future leaders realize their full potential.”
DI encourages destination organizations, higher education partners, and industry leaders to share this opportunity with eligible students, who can submit an application online through January 20, 2026.
In addition, DI invites individuals, companies and community partners to support the program through their charitable contributions. Donations help expand the number of scholarships awarded and ensure ongoing access to mentorship and professional development for students pursuing tourism careers.
