Cover of Indigenous-Led Partnership ToolkitThank you for your interest in the Indigenous-Led Tourism Partnership Toolkit: an initiative grounded in collaboration, respect and the desire to foster meaningful change. Developed jointly by Destinations International, the American Indigenous Tourism Association (AIT) and the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC), this foundational resource is intended for destination organizations and others working to advance destination promotion and community vitality through Indigenous tourism.

The objective of this Toolkit is to deepen understanding of the essential role Indigenous peoples, cultures and knowledge in shaping destinations. It explores opportunities for meaningful engagement and underscores the value of Indigenous-led approaches to tourism for Indigenous communities and the broader public.

Indigenous tourism is already making a meaningful cultural and economic impact in communities across Canada, the United States and beyond. While much of this progress is recent, there is a tremendous opportunity to deepen relationships between destination organizations and Indigenous communities, leading to welcoming and sustainable outcomes for all.

No matter the current level of engagement with Indigenous tourism in your destination or by your organization, we hope this Toolkit is a valuable source of information and actionable guidance. We hope you will share this resource with others, as well as share your feedback – including success stories, obstacles and ideas – so we can continue this meaningful and impactful journey together.
