Steve Moore has worked in the destination-marketing industry for over 40 years. He joined the Phoenix CVB as CEO in 2002 and played a key role in obtaining the remaining $300M from the AZ legislature for Phoenix’s new $600M convention center. Moore also was engaged in the City's development of the 1,000 room Sheraton Grand Hotel. The convention center and Sheraton both formally opened in 2009. His day job is overseeing the booking of conventions large and small, and the overall marketing of Greater Phoenix as a visitor destination.
Moore and Visit Phoenix initiated each bid process that brought the Super Bowl to Arizona in 2008, 2015 and again for 2023. He is a founding executive committee member of the Arizona Super Bowl Bid and Host Committees and the 2017 Phoenix Final Four LOC. He also co-chaired the 2011 MLB All-Star Host Committee, and served on the bid and host committees for the 2009 NBA All-Star Game, the 2011 WWE WrestleMania event in Phoenix and the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Moore serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Travel Association and was a Founding Board Member of the Meetings Mean Business Coalition. He is a past chairman of the Destinations International Foundation and chaired its successful $4M Capital campaign in 2011. He also served as Co-Chair of the IAAM/DMAI Task Force for Best Practices of Convention Centers and DMOs in 2007. In 2012, Moore was inducted into the Arizona Tourism Hall of Fame and in 2015, received the Arizona Lodging & Tourism’s Legacy Award.
Prior to his arrival in Phoenix, he was the Executive Director of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau for 14 years where he was engaged in the similar tasks of a center expansion, three resorts, a theme park, and the opening and booking of major concerts in the Alamodome and two NCAA Final Fours as well as NFL pre-season football games.
He spent his first 14 years at the Houston CVB where he founded the Houston Film Commission and supported the leaders in the building and the opening of the initial phase of the George R. Brown Convention Center in 1987.
Moore is an alumnus of the University of Houston.
