Goyang CVB (GIEF) Executive Director Peter Lee Receives 2026 Destinations International Global Ambassador Award
Industry leader recognized for advancing sustainable growth, global collaboration and innovation in the meetings and events sector
FRANKFURT, Germany (May 20, 2026) – Destinations International (DI), the world’s leading association representing destination organizations and convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs), today announced that Peter Lee, executive director of the Goyang International Expo Foundation (Goyang CVB) in Goyang, South Korea, has been named recipient of the 2026 Destinations International Global Ambassador Award. The award recognizes destination organization leaders who demonstrate exceptional commitment to advancing the global travel and tourism industry through collaboration, innovation and international engagement.
Lee has been instrumental in positioning his destination as one of Asia’s leading meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) hubs, supported by KINTEX, one of the continent’s largest convention centers. A recognized advocate for sustainable tourism and meetings industry development, Lee serves on the board of the Global Destination Sustainability Movement and leads the Korea Green MICE Alliance. He also contributed to Korea’s National Competency Standards for the MICE industry and holds a Ph.D. focused on sustainability in the sector.
In 2023, Lee received the President’s Award from South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in recognition of his contributions to the industry. In 2024, the BBC recognized his destination as one of five cities “making the world a better place,” reflecting Lee’s commitment to ensuring tourism and business events create positive impacts for residents and communities.

Lee has been an active and engaged member of the Destinations International community, regularly participating in the association’s Annual Convention, serving on a global leadership committee and supporting the development of emerging professionals through DI’s 30 Under 30 program. He also helped adapt the Event Impact Calculator for the South Korean market and has partnered with the association through the annual Destination Week event, bringing global best practices and industry collaboration opportunities to the region.
