OutRVA: A Decade of Advocacy and Inclusion

OutRVA celebrated its 10th anniversary in September 2024, marking a decade of welcoming LGBTQ+ travelers to the Richmond Region. Key accomplishments include:

  • Partnering with the local LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce to launch the OutRVA Tourism and Hospitality Membership Grant, awarding two local LGBTQ+ businesses premium memberships to enhance their visibility and opportunities.
  • Serving as a presenting sponsor for Virginia PrideFest for the last three years.
  • Creating impactful campaigns, including content for Trans Awareness Day, and launching creative initiatives like Dine Out for Pride and LGBTQ+ nightlife passport planned for 2025.

OutRVA's decade-long efforts have solidified Richmond's reputation as an inclusive destination, contributing to the city's 100% Municipal Equality Index rating by the Human Rights Campaign for the last three years.

BLK RVA: Uplifting Black Excellence and Heritage

BLK RVA celebrated its 5th anniversary in August 2024 during Black Business Month, underscoring its commitment to showcasing Richmond's vibrant black culture. Highlights of this milestone include:

  • Hosting the inaugural BLK RVA Community Awards at a historic Black-owned theater in Jackson Ward, the neighborhood known as the "Harlem of the South." The event honored the history, resilience, and economic impact of the Black community, presenting five awards aligned with BLK RVA's four pillars: Arts and Entertainment, Food and Drink, History, and Community. The Community Pillar featured the "Rooted and Rising" award to celebrate both legacy and emerging leaders.
  • Launching the BLK RVA Event Sponsorship Program, providing $500-$2,500 grants to support tourism and community-focused events aligned with BLK RVA's mission.
  • Providing membership grants to Black-owned businesses to join local chambers, enhancing capacity-building opportunities.
  • Partnering with a Black-owned photography business to capture professional images and videos of over 18 Black-owned businesses. These businesses received 10-20 free images and b-roll footage to utilize for marketing and promotions.

BLK RVA continues to celebrate Black culture through initiatives like storytelling campaigns, community events, and partnerships that elevate the Richmond Region as a multicultural hub.
