DNEXT Diagnostic Tool

The online diagnostic tool allows destinations to complete an objective self-assessment which can help determine priorities and strategies for the future.

The tool presents a framework that destination leaders and communities can use to critically assess the destination. It also helps to start a conversation and provide focus on what needs to be done in the future.

More than 300 destinations from 18 counties have utilized DestinationNEXT to strategically assess their destinations.

The assessment is based on 20 variables related to destination strength and community support and engagement. Within each variable, a series of metrics are also identified, which offers the opportunity for destination organizations to gather data and provide a more in-depth look at the variable.

The model is built upon two key inputs:

1. An assessment of how important each variable is to the destination

2. An assessment of the destination’s perceived performance across each variable.

The assessments are combined and result in the destination being plotted in one of the following scenarios:

Explorer: Weak destination strength/ weak community support
Voyager: Weak destination strength/ strong community support
Mountaineer: Strong destination strength/ weak community support
Trailblazer: Strong destination strength/ strong community support

A diagnostic report card can also be produced which outlines the results for each variable, and how the destination compares to the industry average. In cases where multiple stakeholders complete the assessment, a standard deviation is also reported so that destination marketing organizations can see how much consensus there is across the participants.

There is a $30 per participant fee for the destination assessment. Workshops can be arranged for an additional fee.
