Deputy Director / Vice President of Marketing & PR, Explore Asheville Convention & Visitors Bureau

Marla Tambellini is the Deputy Director/ Vice President of Marketing & PR at the Explore Asheville Convention & Visitors Bureau overseeing the destination’s strategic marketing, social and media relations efforts. During her 20+ year tenure with Explore Asheville, she has spearheaded a variety of initiatives and award-winning campaigns, including creation of the culinary Foodtopia efforts, the Five Day Weekend campaign and the development of Asheville’s destination brand. In addition, she is engaged in destination management and the ongoing role ACVB plays in development issues and community relations.

Previously, Tambellini helped launch an in-house public relations department at Biltmore Estate, one of North Carolina’s top attractions. Prior to moving to Asheville, she worked for a public relations agency, guiding communication and advocacy efforts of a diverse clientele, including the Michigan Department of Treasury, State Farm, and the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association. Tambellini, who holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The Ohio State University, also spent seven years as a broadcast journalist in Texas and Ohio.

She has served in leadership roles in the Public Relations Society of America, the Society of American Travel Writers and the Destination Marketing Association of North Carolina and recently joined the board of the Southeast Tourism Society. She also serves on the Asheville Downtown Association board and is the vice president of the Appalachian Sustainable Agricultural Project. Tambellini has been a frequent speaker at state and national tourism conferences.
